Support from Scales, Greece and PETA

Just THREE days to go until the council’s statutory deadline for submissions and the campaign has received a fillip from three very different sources.

First up, Wimbledon legend and 88 Cup Final hero (coming on as a centre forward!) John Scales has been a one-man media frenzy, singing the praises of the campaign to local and national media and conducting a heartfelt interview with the club.

Secondly. we were delighted, and a little surprised, to have 3000 messages of support from Greece this week. Remembering the old adage “timeo Danaos et dona ferentes”, we did a little investigating and discovered that the source was an excellent article on a Greek football website. Our modern Greek isn’t quite up to the standards of our Latin, so we cheated and used Google to get the gist of it. It seems a lot of the messages of support come from fans of AEK Athens, who are themselves having a rather turbulent time, but there were also messages from wider afield across Greece.

Finally, we have been delighted to see that PETA are supporting the club’s proposal with a petition both calling for an end to greyhound racing but also the construction of a community football stadium in Merton.

So a big thank you to John Scales and PETA and ευχαριστώ πολύ to our newfound Greek friends. And a final reminder that there is still time to WRITE NOW!
